Description
Food is culture and in Porto, every bite tells a story. On this Porto food and wine walking tour, you’ll experience the heart of the city: its people, traditions, and soul, through the flavors that define it.
This guided experience begins in the vibrant city center, where your local guide introduces you to Porto’s rich culinary history. You’ll walk from the iconic Santa Catarina Street to the cultural artery of Rua Passos Manuel, learning how each neighborhood reflects a different layer of the city’s identity.
First things first, you’ll sample a custard tart (Pastel de Nata) paired with a bold special blend espresso, as your guide shares how monks once guarded its original recipe.
Next, you’ll visit the legendary Bolhão Market, Porto’s traditional marketplace pulsing with color, voices, and fresh aromas. Meet local vendors, see the ingredients that power Portuguese kitchens, and feel the heartbeat of daily life in the city.
You’ll continue to hidden taverns and mercearias (old-school groceries) where locals shop, eat, and gather. Tuck into a rustic charcuterie and cheese board with Portuguese cheeses, smoked meats, olives, and artisan bread, always paired with a glass of wine.
Along the way, your guide will bring Porto’s food scene to life with stories of wine routes, forgotten recipes, and family traditions that survived through generations. This isn’t just about tasting, but about understanding what food means to locals.
One of the final stops? A traditional Bifana (thinly sliced pork in spicy marinade, Porto-style) served with a “fino,” the small local draft beer that keeps conversations flowing. At this stop you'll also taste the famous Codfish cakes and a traditional soup called Caldo Verde.
Of course, a food tour in Porto wouldn’t be complete without Port Wine. You’ll taste distinct styles while learning the secrets behind how it’s made, aged, and served. The wines are poured with pride and explained with passion, accompanied by chocolate.
If you choose the 4-hours tour, we have more waiting for you - half Francesinha and half a flame-grilled chicken per person. A full Portuguese meal for your lunch or dinner.
By the end, you won’t just feel full, you’ll feel connected. This tour is a tribute to the flavors and people that make Porto unforgettable. Whether you’re a foodie, a wine lover, or a curious traveler, this walking experience offers a deeper, tastier way to explore the city.
