The park of Pena Palace, is the reflection of the romantic combined with the exoticism and the untamed wildness of nature. The king designed twisting paths that would take visitors off in discovery of key reference landmarks and where they could best appreciate some stunning views: the High Cross, the Temple of Columns, St. Catherine’s Heights, the Grotto of the Monk, the Little Birds Fountain, the Queen’s Fern Valley and the Valley of the Lakes. Along the pathways, in keeping with his interest as a collector, the King planted tree species from every continent and in the process rendering the 85 hectares of the Park of Pena as the most important arboretum existing in Portugal. Visit the Condessa d'Edla Chalet, In one of the corners of the park, strategically located to the west of the Pena Palace. D. Fernando II and Elise, began the construction of a chalet that was designed and planned by the Countess d'Edla herself. The Chalet which reflects the couple's artistic facets. Both the cottage and the surrounding garden display a deeply romantic sensibility. The building is inspired by alpine chalets in a style that was then very popular throughout Europe. The chalet incorporates a scenographic dimension that reflects the artistic facets of this couple.
