Description

Discover the heart of Brazil on a guided walking tour of Salvador. Visit the Lacerda Elevator, the first street in Brazil, and the Monument to the Fallen Cross. See the first Faculty of Medicine in the country and the impressive Igreja de Ouro. Meet your guide at Praça Castro Alves, where you can enjoy an incredible view of Baía de Todos os Santos and its islands. After leaving Praça Castro Alves, continue walking along Rua Chile (the first street in Brazil) and then make a photo stop at Pau da Bandeira street, known in Salvador for its magnificent view of the bay. Proceed to Praça Thomé de Souza, named in honor of the first General Governor of Brazil. In Praça Thomé de Souza, find the Palácio do Primeiro Governo, which was used as Brazil's first prison, and the magnificent Lacerda Elevator, which connects Salvador's two areas: Cidade Alta and Cidade Baixa. Continuing along Rua Chile, pass by the Museu da Misericórdia, and head to Praça da Sé, where you will see the remarkable Monument to the Fallen Cross, erected in protest of the demolition of Igreja da Sé. At Praça da Sé, make two stops: one to view the statue of the first Bishop of Brazil and learn about his tragic end, and another to see the statue of Zumbi dos Palmares, the leader of the resistance against slavery. Leaving Praça da Sé, head to Largo Terreiro de Jesus. Be amazed by the first Faculty of Medicine in the country and a complex of churches that stand out in the square. Next, move on to Largo do Cruzeiro de São Francisco, where the impressive Igreja de Ouro stands out. Pass by Olodum's house, and finally visit the famous 'Ladeira do Pelô,' where the pop star Michael Jackson filmed the music video for 'They Don’t Care About Us.' See the church of black people, the brotherhood of black men in Brazil.
